Officer Involved Shooting

On December 28, 2017, at approximately 8:30 p.m. officers with the Jackson Police Department began a pursuit of a vehicle that was stolen in a home invasion robbery on Manor Road the previous night. During the pursuit which covered several miles, the suspect vehicle reached approximately 80 miles per hour while driving recklessly through traffic. The pursuit ended on Melwood, a dead end, where the suspect vehicle which was occupied by three black males, stopped.

The two passengers fled on foot. The driver placed the suspect vehicle in reverse and rammed a police cruiser that was occupied by an officer. The suspect then attempted to leave the area by driving through a yard. When the suspect’s exit was blocked, he drove the car in the direction of officers who were pursuing him on foot. Officers fired at the suspect to stop the threat that he posed to officers. The suspect was found at a nearby house where he was attempting to get medical assistance for the injuries that he received.

Officers took the suspect into custody, and he was transported to a local hospital. He was admitted and is in stable condition.

The suspect has been determined to be a juvenile. The suspect will be charged with Felony Evading Arrest, two counts of Aggravated Assault, and Unlawful Possession of a Handgun by a Juvenile.

Based on a follow up investigation, the suspect will be charged in connection to the home invasion that occurred on Manor Road. For this incident, the suspect will be charged with three counts of Aggravated Robbery, Aggravated Burglary, Theft of a Motor Vehicle valued at over $1,000, and Employing a Firearm during the commission of a Dangerous Felony.
