Deputies arrest two wanted felons after foot chase and K9 assist

Sonoma County Sheriff’s deputies arrested two wanted felons after a foot pursuit and with the assistance of a K9.  Shortly after 1:00 a.m. on December 29, 2017, a deputy was conducting surveillance in the 1300 block of Peterson Lane in Santa Rosa.  He was looking for two people with outstanding felony warrants that he knew were often in that area: Dominic Wattles and Corrina Gonzales.  He watched one of the suspects, Dominic Wattles, 36 , of Windsor, walk by the patrol car.  When the deputy approached him, Wattles ran and began jumping fences into the backyards of several houses, heading towards a known drug house.  The deputy chased Wattles on foot along the street.

More deputies arrived to set up a perimeter and check the backyards Wattles had run through before likely arriving at the drug house.  The deputies learned there was someone on felony probation living at the drug house, which allows law enforcement to search the house.  Deputies heard people in the house and attic.  After knocking on the doors and windows multiple times, a resident eventually opened the door.  Deputies escorted several people outside to complete the probation search.  One of occupants was Corrina Gonzales, 33, of Santa Rosa.  Wattles was not present, but deputies found the sweatshirt he had been wearing inside the house.  They warned Wattles a K9 would be used to help search the house.

Deputies did not find Wattles inside the living area of the house but kept hearing noise from the attic.  After looking into the attic from the access opening and not seeing Wattles, they released K9 “Scout” into the attic.  The K9 found Wattles hiding under insulation in a spot that was difficult to access.  Wattles tried to push the K9 away, then the K9 bit him in the left bicep and underarm and pulled him from the hiding spot.  Deputies took Wattles outside and placed a tourniquet on his arm to slow the bleeding until medical personnel arrived a short time later.

Wattles was arrested and transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.  He will be booked into jail for the outstanding felony warrant and resisting arrest.  Gonzales was arrested and booked into the Sonoma County Jail for her outstanding felony and misdemeanor warrants.  She is being held without bail due to the no-bail felony warrant.
