*UPDATE* #LASD Homicide Dets Assist South Gate PD w/ Ofcr Inv Shooting Invest 9800 blk of Bowman Ave., Susp Deceased 
Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Homicide bureau detectives are assisting South Gate Police Department with an officer involved shooting investigation, resulting in the death of a male Hispanic adult.
The officer involved shooting occurred in the 9800 block of Bowman Avenue in the city of South Gate, on Thursday, December 28, 2017 at approximately 4:13 p.m.
Detectives have learned when South Gate Police Department officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop of a gold Lexus for a traffic violation, the vehicle failed to yield to the officers and led them on a vehicle pursuit for approximately two minutes.
Moments later, the driver in the suspect’s vehicle stopped the vehicle and was detained by the pursuing officer without incident. While the driver was being detained, the passenger of the suspect’s vehicle walked away from the vehicle.
He was later found by assisting officers inside a shed located in the backyard of a residence, at which point he brandished a handgun at the officers and an officer involved shooting occurred. Two officers discharged their firearms several times, striking the suspect at least once in the upper torso. The suspect was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
No officers were injured.
It is unclear, at this time, if the suspect discharged his handgun. A handgun was recovered at the scene.
The name of the deceased suspect is not being released at this time, pending next of kin notification.

Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Homicide detectives are en route to the 9800 block of Bowman Avenue, South Gate, to assist South Gate Police Department personnel investigate the circumstances surrounding an Officer-Involved shooting.
The suspect, a male Hispanic adult was struck by gunfire and transported to a local hospital. His condition is unknown at this time.
There were no officers injured during the incident.
The investigation is on-going and there is no additional information available at this time.
