APD Impaired Driving Enforcement Increased During New Year’s Holiday

Continuing efforts to keep drivers safe, the Impaired Driving Enforcement Unit (IDEU) will be increasing enforcement starting tonight through New Year’s Day. Motorists can expect to see more officers on the street and preventing impaired driving as well as other traffic violations.
The extra enforcement is thanks to funding from the Alaska Department of Transportation & Public Facilities’ (ADOT&PF) Alaska Highway Safety Office.
This year your Impaired Driving Unit issued 5,214 citations and made 726 Operating Under the Influence (OUI) arrests. Of all OUI arrests the Anchorage Police Department made 44% of them were made by IDEU.
While on patrol IDEU also conducted a total of 7,162 traffic stops and issued 1,722 speeding tickets as well as 240 red light violations.
The APD Impaired Driving and Traffic units want to remind everyone to slow down, wear your seat belt, and celebrate the holidays responsibly. Don’t drive impaired. Use a designated driver, cab or ride-sharing program. Driving under the influence is a preventable crime.
