Deputies Investigate Major Injury Traffic Collision

DATE/TIME: December 24, 2017 / 10:00 p.m.
INCIDENT: Major Injury Traffic Collision
LOCATION: Mariposa Road, South of Main Street / Hesperia

SUMMARY: On December 24, 2017 at approximately 10:00 PM, deputies from the Hesperia Sheriff’s Station, along with officers from the California Highway Patrol and rescue personnel from the San Bernardino County Fire Department were dispatched to an unknown injury, roll over traffic collision that occurred in the area of Mariposa Road, south of Main Street in the City of Hesperia. First responders arrived on scene and found a single vehicle (2006 Ford Pick Up) on its side with three occupants trapped inside. Based on physical evidence found at the scene it was determined that the Ford truck had been traveling north on Mariposa Road, south of Main Street, at an unknown speed when the driver lost control and the vehicle left the roadway. The driver was unable to gain control of the vehicle after it left the roadway, at which time the vehicle went through the barrier fencing which separates the north bound lanes of I-15 and Mariposa Road. The vehicle overturned in the flood control culvert and continued back through the barrier fencing toward Mariposa. The impact caused the entire roof of the vehicle to collapse, trapping all three occupants in the vehicle. No other vehicles were involved in the collision.

Rescue personnel were able to extricate the occupants and found the adult male driver, adult male passenger and an adult female passenger, were all suffering from major injuries. All three occupants were taken to hospitals for further treatment of life threatening injuries and the Hesperia Station Traffic Division is conducting the investigation. Unsafe speed and alcohol are both suspected to be a factor in the collision at this time and the investigation is ongoing.

The south bound lane of Mariposa Road and one lane of the north bound I-15 freeway were closed for about 4 hours while investigators processed the scene and repairs were made to the barrier fencing by Caltrans. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision is asked to contact the Hesperia Station.
