Deputies Arrest Burglary Suspect and Seek Outstanding Suspect
DATE/TIME: December 25, 2017 at about 10:05 a.m.
INCIDENT: Commercial Burglary in Progress and Possession of Stolen Firearm
LOCATION: 25000 block of 5th St in the City of Highland, CA
SUSPECT(S): Jose Castaneda, 33, a resident of Highland, CA and other unknown suspect.
VICTIM(S): Confidential
SUMMARY: Deputies from the Highland Station responded to a commercial burglary in progress at Inland Steel. Two suspects broke into the business and stole over $1200 in dirt bike gear. They fled on foot and were videotaped leaving the scene. With the assistance of Sheriff's Aviation and Central Station units, a perimeter was set and a search was conducted. Castaneda was found hiding under a nearby car with a stolen handgun in his possession. The second unknown suspect is still outstanding. Deputies were able to find the dirt bike gear and return it to the owner. Castaneda was found to have an outstanding arrest warrant. He was arrested and booked at the Central Detention Center and is being held on $250,000 bail.
