Tip of the Week #1: Drive Safely

Christmas is almost here, and many of us will be out and about doing last minute shopping. But we need to remember that school is still out for winter vacation, and there will be a lot more pedestrian traffic.  As always, we should obey all posted speed limits, stop signs, and yielding the right of way to pedestrians crossing the street.  Pedestrians also need to be responsible, and cross the street safely, using marked crosswalks whenever available.

Tip of the Week #2:  Preventing Drunk Driving

Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve will soon be here, and many of us will be celebrating the evenings with family and friends.  As such, we need to look out for ourselves and each other when consuming alcohol.  It’s always best to arrange a designated driver who will not consume any alcohol and can safely drive everyone home.  If you do not have a designated driver, consider using many of the other options such as calling for a taxi or using any of the app type driving services.  If you have been drinking, and you can still feel even a mild effect of the alcohol, DO NOT DRIVE.  “Buzzed driving is drunk driving.”

Tip of the Week #3:  Discharging of Firearms within City Limits

A common practice by many on New Year’s Eve is to fire shots from a firearm into the air to celebrate the event.  This is not only illegal (246.3 PC, Negligent Discharge of a Firearm), but it is extremely dangerous.  When bullets are fired into the air, they travel at an arch, and eventually do come back down to the ground at a very high velocity.  When living in a densely populated area as we do, this means that the rounds will possibly hit housed, vehicles, and even people.  The results can be deadly.  If you see someone discharging a firearm in an unsafe manner, or if you hear what you suspect are gunshots, please call the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station immediately.

Take care, and be safe.
