Cold Weather Notice

The National Weather Service (NWS) is predicting temperatures in the mid to upper 30s in much of San Francisco overnight and into tomorrow morning. If you have to be outside be sure to bundle up and dress appropriately for the weather.  Don’t forget to bring pets inside and out of the elements.

San Francisco’s winter shelter program has been expanded for our residents that cannot easily find shelter. San Francisco’s Homeless Outreach Team is reaching out to unsheltered residents to help get them indoors. If you see someone in need of shelter, please call 3-1-1. If someone is having a medical emergency then call 9-1-1.

If you are heating your home, please follow these simple tips to keep safe and secure:

  •        Make sure baseboard and portable heaters are away from anything that can burn; furniture, curtains, papers, clothing, etc.
  •        Make sure carbon monoxide detectors are installed near sleeping and common areas;
  •        Never use products inside of your home that generate dangerous levels of carbon monoxide, such as generators, outdoor grills and propane heaters;
  •         Never use cooking devices such as ovens or stoves for home heating purposes;
  •         When using a fireplace to stay warm, make sure the flue is open so that flammable materials can vent safely through the chimney
