“Police Blotter” Highlights – Ending Dec. 10, 2017
 
VEHICLE THEFT ARRESTS
On Monday, Dec. 4th, around 1 a.m., Ofc. Jensen was conducting security checks in Union Landing, when he located an unoccupied stolen vehicle in a hotel parking lot. A hotel room key and various debit cards were located in the vehicle. The subject was contacted in the hotel, and was in possession of the vehicle keys. Tyja Wilkins, a 29-year-old Oakland resident, was arrested for vehicle theft.
 
On Friday, Dec. 8th, around 10:15 p.m., Ofc. Parodi was in the 31900 block of Hayman St. when he observed a subject crouching down and hiding next to a pickup truck. Next to the pickup truck was another vehicle, reported stolen out of Hayward. Various packages and mail from different addresses were located inside the stolen vehicle. It was determined that some of the packages were stolen from victims’ front porches. Shaved keys and lock picking tools were also located inside the suspect’s pickup truck. Paul Anduja, a 38-year-old Union City resident, was arrested for vehicle theft, the possession of stolen property, and the possession of burglary tools.

ASSAULT WITH A DEADLY WEAPON
On Tuesday, Dec. 5th, around 1 a.m., Ofc. Ayala was dispatched to St. Rose Hospital on the report of an assault that had occurred in Union City. The victim said that during an argument with a known male suspect, the suspect punched him several times, bit him, and hit him in the chest with a baseball bat. The suspect, a 16-year-old Union City resident, was arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, carrying a concealed dirk or dagger, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
 
On Saturday, Dec. 9th, around 1:20 p.m., officers were dispatched to the 33200 block of 5th St. on the report of a brandished firearm. During an argument over the sale of a vehicle, the suspect pointed a revolver at the victims, including a young child who was present, and threatened to shoot them. Charles Guerrero, a 65-year-old Union City resident, was arrested for assault with a firearm, crime threats, conspiracy, and child endangerment. Charles Guerrero IV, a 38-year-old Union City resident, was arrested for crime threats and conspiracy.

ROBBERIES
On Tuesday, Dec. 5th, around 12 p.m., two suspects approached a victim in the 30000 block of Industrial Parkway SW, pointed a small handgun and Taser at him, and stole a generator. They fled in a late 1990s gray Toyota Camry or similar vehicle. The first suspect was described as a heavy-set Hispanic male in his early 30s, about 5’9” and 200 lbs., with short black hair. The second suspect was described as a Hispanic male in his mid-20s, about 6’1” and 200 lbs., with long black hair.

On Thursday, Dec. 7th, around 10 a.m., a suspect removed the victim’s tote bag from her shopping cart in the 1700 block of Decoto Rd. The victim struggled with the suspect and was able to recover the bag, at which point the suspect grabbed a jug of milk from the victim’s cart and smashed it on the floor. The suspect was located nearby and positively identified by the victim and a witness. Gene Mabry, a 38-year-old Oakland resident, was arrested for robbery and petty theft.
 
On Saturday, Dec. 9th, around 12:40 p.m., the victim confronted two suspects who were stealing power tools from his business in the 1100 block of Pacific St. One of the suspects pointed a handgun at him, and both suspects fled in a four-door silver Mercedes with black paper plates.
 
On Sunday, Dec. 10th, around 10:15 p.m., a black male suspect, 35-42, pushed the victim and took his phone in the 1700 block of Decoto Rd.

CARJACKINGS
On Thursday, Dec. 7th, around 12:30 p.m., Ofc. Truong was dispatched to the 1800 block of Whipple Rd. on the report of a carjacking. The victim was carrying boxes to her vehicle when a suspect pushed her to the ground, entered her vehicle and drove away. The suspect was identified, and a warrant was issued for his arrest. On Dec. 10th, Yair Roque, a 22-year-old Union City resident, was arrested for carjacking.
 
On Friday, Dec. 8th, around 7:30 p.m., Ofc. Bedford was dispatched to a carjacking report that occurred at Dry Creek Park, 1001 Westgard St. The victim said a group of 17- to 18-year-old Hispanic males approached his vehicle on foot. One suspect pointed a black handgun at the victim and directed him to unlock the doors. After getting in the vehicle, the suspect then directed the victim to drive to a nearby bank and withdraw money from the ATM. After doing so, the victim ran to a nearby business and asked for help, at which point the suspect drove off in the victim’s vehicle. The suspect was described as a Hispanic male, 17-18, 5’8” to 5’10” with a slim build and a very thin mustache. The stolen vehicle was later recovered in another jurisdiction, and a suspect was taken into custody.
 
GRAND THEFT
On Sunday, Dec. 10th, around 4:15 p.m., a suspect stole a display iPhone from a Union Landing business, then fled in a silver compact hatchback. The suspect was described as a white male dressed as a woman, with shoulder-length pink hair.

PROACTIVE ENFORCEMENT
On Sunday, Dec. 10th, around 10:30 p.m., Ofc. Blanchard contacted two subjects near the Union City/Hayward border. A probation/parole search of the vehicle yielded a syringe, stun gun and methamphetamine. Ajit Brar, a 32-year-old Union City resident, was arrested for felon in possession of a stun gun and various drug-related offenses.
 
BURGLARIES AND CAR THEFTS
 
RESIDENTIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, Dec. 4th through Sunday, Dec. 10th, there were three reported residential burglaries and one attempt:

• 100 block of Red Cedar Lane: Occurred between Wednesday, Dec. 6th at 10 p.m., and Thursday, Dec. 7th at 7:15 a.m. The garage door opener was stolen from a vehicle parked in the driveway, and then used to enter the residence. The loss included a purse and electronics.
• 32500 block of Meteor Dr.: Occurred on Friday, Dec. 8th, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Two doors were pried open, and the loss included cash, jewelry and electronics.
• 2400 block of Almaden Pl.: Occurred on Saturday, Dec. 9th, from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. A window was smashed, and the loss included jewelry.
• 3100 block of San Andreas Dr. (attempt only): Occurred on Saturday, Dec. 9th. Two window screens were removed, but there was no apparent entry.

COMMERCIAL BURGLARIES
From Monday, Dec. 4th through Sunday, Dec. 10th, there was one reported commercial burglary:

• 34600 block of Alvarado Niles Rd.: Occurred on Tuesday, Dec. 5th, around 6:30 a.m. The same female suspect who attempted to open the business’ coin-operated machines the previous week was trying to do so again. About 30 minutes later, three males entered the business and also attempted to burglarize it. Ultimately, Celeste Karp, a 46-year-old Union City resident, and Franklin Mabuyo, a 20-year-old Union City resident, were both arrested for burglary.

AUTO BURGLARIES AND VEHICLE THEFTS
From Monday, Dec. 4th through Sunday, Dec. 10th, there were 15 reported auto burglaries. Six of the burglaries occurred at the Union Landing shopping center, and seven occurred in residential areas. Most of the Union Landing burglaries involved laptop bags, backpacks and electronics that were left in plain view on the front or rear seats.

From Monday, Dec. 4th through Sunday, Dec. 10th, there were nine reported vehicle thefts, including the two carjackings. As of the time of this report, six of the vehicles have been recovered.
