Free Radon-Testing Kits Now Available for Knowlton Residents

150 radon-testing kits are now available for free to Knowlton residents at the Knowlton Municipal Building.

Radon is a naturally occuring, radioactive gas that you can't see, smell, or taste. It is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States and it occurs when certain types of rock break down and gas seeps into the home, often collecting in the basement, through cracks in the foundation or space around pipes. The US Environmental Protection Agency ranks Warren County, NJ, as being at the highest risk level for radon.

The Knowlton Township Committee applied for and received a grant from the NJDEP for radon testing kits. 150 are now available to residents on a first-come, first-served basis at the Knowlton Municipal Building. Residents are limited to one kit per household.

The kits include two empty tubes. Testers should uncap the tubes, leave them undisturbed inside the home for 48 hours, then seal and return the tubes to the lab with the included prepaid postage. A NJ state certified lab will evaluate the sample and provide results directly and confidentially to the tester.

For detailed information or to pick up your kit, please visit the Knowlton Municipal Building.
