The two burglaries below are located two streets away from one another, within the same gated community.
Occurred on: 12/5/2017 between 8:25 p.m. and 8:45 p.m.
An unknown suspects entered the victim’s residence after shattering a rear French door, which led from the backyard into the living room. Once inside, the suspects opened several drawers and cabinets both downstairs and upstairs before fleeing back out the point of entry. During the burglary the victim was upstairs in the shower. When she got out of the shower, she heard voices and stayed in the bathroom until she thought it was safe to exit. When she no longer hear the voices she immediately left the home and went to a neighbor’s house.
Once the police were notified, they arrived and searched the residence and surrounding area, but the suspects had already fled.

Suspect Information: Suspects heard talking inside the residence, but not seen.

Occurred between: 12/5/2017 at 7:20 p.m. and 12/7/2017 at 9:40 a.m.
An unknown suspect shattered a hole in the victim’s rear French door, reached in and unlocked the door. The door leads from the backyard into the dining room. Once inside, the suspect opened several cabinets throughout the home and then went upstairs and ransacked the master bedroom and closet. The suspect also located a safe and was able to force it partially open. The suspect fled out the front door, which was found open by the victim’s gardener. The gardener didn’t realize there had been a burglary until he found the shattered door when he went to the backyard.
The victims were not home during the time of the burglary.

Home Security Tips
- Always lock your windows and doors when you go out, even if for only a few minutes.
- If you return home and find your pedestrian door that leads into your home locked, and you are certain that you left it unlocked, DO NOT GO INSIDE!
- Call 9-1-1 ~ Burglars often lock this door to slow down a victim, allowing the burglar extra time to get out of the home before the resident enters.
- If your home is equipped with an alarm, always activate it even if you’re only going out for a short walk.
- Consider adding a motion sensor in your master bedroom/bathroom, which will activate the alarm if someone comes in through a glass window or door without opening it.
- Always keep your front and rear porch lights on from dusk to dawn and use motion detector lighting along the sides of your home or areas with little foot traffic.
- Use timers on indoor lamps to give the appearance that you are home.
- Adjust window coverings for optimal privacy while maintaining good visibility outside.
- If your garage door has a remote shutoff button on the wall-mounted control, located in the garage, consider locking the door nightly. This will prevent your garage door from being opened remotely.
- If you have a safe, make sure that it is properly bolted to concrete so that it cannot be easily removed.
- Always close and lock your safe and never leave a key or combination out or in an easy to find location (i.e. office, nightstand, etc).
- When you leave on vacation, remember to call the Police Department for a “Vacation Check” 949-644-3681 or sign-up online at www.nbpd.org. Also, ask a trusted friend or neighbor to pick up your newspaper and mail while you are away.
