The Clinton Police Captain shot while conducting a traffic stop Thursday afternoon is recuperating at home. Capt. Mike Murley was shot in both biceps when he pulled over a vehicle at 3rd and Hayes in Clinton at approximately 3pm Thursday. The detective was searching for the passenger in the car who had a warrant for his arrest. Alfonso Rios (4/1/1976) shot at the detective multiple times. Captain Murley returned gunfire; however, Rios was not struck. Numerous OSBI special agents spent the night collecting information and interviewing witnesses at the scene. Today, agents continue searching for witnesses to the crime. Rios was arrested at the scene and booked into the Custer Co. jail. Capt. Murley has served in law enforcement for 25 years.
