Cal OES to send Emergency Alert text message at 8pm. Please note there are no active wildfires in Orange County.
Cal OES (the California Office of Emegency Services) is planning to send a message to all Southern California Counties via the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) system tonight at 8pm. Please note that there are no active wildfires in Orange County; this message is solely a warning about dangerous fire conditions and high winds. The message will also encourage community members to opt in to their local emergency notification system.
Orange County residents can register with AlertOC at http://www.AlertOC.com or by texting AlertOC to 888-777.
The WEA system broadcasts emergency messages directly to cellular phones and certain other devices to alert users of imminent threats to safety in their area. For more information on WEA, visit https://www.fcc.gov/consumers/guides/wireless-emergency-alerts-wea.
