S.W.A.T. negotiations lead to the arrest of Peter Wolik for domestic abuse and assault with a deadly weapon

DATE/TIME: December 4, 2017 / 5:30 p.m.

INCIDENT: Domestic Abuse / Assault with a Deadly Weapon

LOCATION: 6500 Block of Oasis Avenue, Twentynine Palms

SUSPECT: Peter Wolik, 36 year old resident of Twentynine Palms

VICTIM: Confidential female

SUMMARY: On Monday, December 4, 2017, at 5:30 p.m., Sheriff's dispatch received a call from neighbors in an apartment complex at the 6500 block of Oasis Avenue in Twentynine Palms reporting a domestic disturbance with people arguing and items being thrown inside. Upon arrival at the apartment, deputies contacted Peter Wolik who had barricaded himself inside, holding a knife and requesting deputies to shoot him. While trying to get Wolik out of the apartment, a second call was placed to dispatch from a female at a different residence in Twentynine Palms stating she was stabbed in the hand and was bleeding. A deputy responded to the second address and confirmed the female had a large laceration to her hand and was found to be Wolik's girlfriend and mother to his child. The victim was transported to a local hospital to be treated for her injuries.

Deputies continued to maintain verbal communication with Wolik who began to place additional items in front of the doors and windows. The San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department Special Weapons and Tactics (S.W.A.T.) team was called and responded to the scene to assist. After several hours of negotiations, Wolik eventually removed a barricade from behind a door and exited. Walik resisted arrest and after a short struggle, he was taken into custody. Walik was booked into the county jail in lieu of $100,000 bail after being treated for injuries he sustained after breaking an apartment window with his fist while he was barricaded, and as a result of the altercation.
