Wanted Driver and Vehicle Located from Fatal Collision

On 11/30/17, at approximately 4:51 PM, the Chula Vista Police Department received several 911 calls reporting that a pedestrian had been struck by an unknown vehicle in the 600 block of H Street.

Today investigators with the CVPD Traffic Bureau went door to door at businesses in the area until they found security video which contained an image of a semi- tractor/trailer which was at the scene at the time of the collision. Officers able to take this image and back track the possible route traveled, searching even more businesses until they located more clear images that could be used to piece together actionable information that lead to them to locating the semi in Fullerton where the driver was in the process of loading for another trip from there to Fresno. Officers from CVPD were able to liaison with the Fullerton Police Dept. who sent officers to secure the vehicle and driver until Officers and the CVPD Crime Lab could respond.

After an exhaustive evaluation of the evidence, the vehicle and interviews of the driver, it was determined the driver of the semi was not aware there had been a collision. CVPD continues to investigate this matter but at this time no charges are being contemplated.

The victim sustained traumatic injuries to his head and extremities. The victim succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
