Press Release regarding arrest of subject in pimping and sexual assault investigation. SRPD case 17-15078

In early November 2017, a Santa Rosa Police detective saw information on a website known for the posting of advertisements related to commercial sex acts. One of the detective’s assignments within the Domestic Violence/Sexual Assault Investigations Team is to investigate human trafficking situations. In this particular case, he believed the woman pictured in the advertisement might be a minor. As the case progressed, a male by the name of Laiken James was identified as being associated with the woman. Ultimately the detective found out the woman was not a minor; however, James was associated with her by acting as her pimp.

The detective also located evidence that James has had numerous sexual relationships with young girls ranging in age from 14-17 years old. These relationships have occurred since James turned 18 and continued to his current age of 20.

On 11/28/17 at approximately 4:30 PM, the detective was watching James in Rohnert Park. Assisted by patrol officers from the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety, he arrested James without incident.

Laiken James is a 20 year old resident of Rohnert Park. He was booked at the Sonoma County jail with bail set at $55,000. His charges at the time of booking were:

Felony 261.5 PC/Sexual Intercourse with a Minor
Felony 288a(b)(1) PC/Oral Copulation with a Person Under 18
Felony 266h PC/Pimping
