Illegal side show activity investigation results with a 1995 Nissan 240SX being towed by investigating officers.

On Monday, November 13, 2017, Fremont Patrol Officers responded to several reports of illegal side show activity taking place in the southern part of town. Based on video captured from a patrol in-car camera system, a follow up investigation led to a 1995 Nissan 240SX being towed for its involvement in the illegal activities.

On Sunday, November 12, 2017, at 11:04 pm, Fremont Fire personnel from Station 11 in south Fremont called to report several hundred cars doing donuts and sideshow activities on Lakeview Blvd. Officers arrived and found several cars in the area engaged in illegal sideshow activity. When Officers began conducting enforcement action, a couple hundred people began running away. The vehicles mostly scattered and a few traffic stops were made. A 1990 Lexus 4-door vehicle with false registration tabs was towed. Some of the vehicles in the area were carrying spare tires they would sell once the participants destroyed their tires doing donuts. During this initial enforcement, one Fremont patrol car was damaged by a suspect who threw a large rock at the vehicle.

After the group left, they moved their activities to Osgood Rd near Automall Pkwy. Officers responded to the area and the group left. They regrouped in the 900 block of Page Rd and Milmont Dr. During enforcement in this area, an Officer’s occupied patrol car was surrounded by masked persons. The patrol car sustained damage including a broken mirror and dents. The patrol vehicle’s in-car camera system was activated and captured a 1995 Nissan 240SX doing illegal sideshow activity. The patrol Officer attempted to stop the Nissan but the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed, nearly hitting bystanders. Another group of bystanders blocked the patrol car and prevented the Officer from following the Nissan as it left the area. The large group dispersed the area fleeing down Milmont Rd. towards Milpitas in both lanes of traffic. They did not return after this incident.

Sideshow activity is illegal and extremely dangerous, not only for the participants, but also for bystanders and uninvolved motorists. Fremont has a zero-tolerance policy for persons engaged in sideshow activities. Patrol Officers and members of the Department’s Special Investigations Unit located the 1995 Nissan 240SX in San Jose on November 28, 2017. The Nissan 240SX was towed for its involvement in the sideshow activity.

This remains an ongoing investigation and anyone with information, is asked to please contact Officer Floresca via email at [email protected] or send your anonymous tip by texting ‘Tip FremontPD’ followed by your message to 888777.

Patrol and Traffic Officers will continue to actively deter sideshow activity and work with our neighboring agencies during the upcoming weeks.
