Husband and wife team arrested for heroin trafficking throughout Sonoma County.

In July of 2017, detectives from the Santa Rosa Police Department’s Narcotic Team began an investigation into possible narcotics trafficking by a Sonoma County resident. The suspect, later identified as Pedro Lopez (20 years) was suspected of selling heroin in the greater Santa Rosa area. Detectives learned that Lopez was part of large scale heroin drug trafficking organization that distributed heroin throughout Santa Rosa and surrounding Sonoma County areas.

On Tuesday, November 28, 2017, detectives from the Santa Rosa Police Department began surveilling Lopez from his residence in Petaluma. Detectives observed Lopez, along with his spouse, later identified as Joann Guzman (27 years) and two small children all enter their vehicle and drive from their residence. Detectives from the Santa Rosa Police Department surveilled Lopez and Guzman drive to nearby shopping centers in Petaluma then to Rohnert Park and finally to Santa Rosa. Based on observations made by detectives, it was believed that Lopez and Guzman were meeting and selling narcotics to customers in these shopping center parking lots.

When detectives observed Lopez and Guzman meet with a potential customer in a local Santa Rosa shopping center parking lot, all subjects were detained. During which time, approximately 2 ounces of heroin was located on Lopez. Guzman was also detained and detectives located an additional 4 ounces of suspected heroin inside her purse along with over $1,400 in cash.

Guzman’s children were temporarily taken into protective custody before released to family members.

Detectives went to Lopez and Guzman’s residence at 330 Stuart Dr #K in Petaluma and served a search warrant. At the residence, detectives located and recovered approximately 2 pounds of suspected heroin and $1,000 in cash. A further search at the residence was completed and detectives located evidence of packaging, scales and notes related to drug trafficking.

Guzman and Lopez were both transported to the Sonoma County Jail where they were booked for possession for sale of heroin, transportation of heroin, and conspiracy to distribute heroin.
