On November 29th, 2017, a press conference was held by the Janesville Police Department to provide information to the public about a series of concerning reports to the police over the past few weeks. These reports indicated that a male approached juvenile females at or near bus stops asking them if they wanted a ride, and in some cases commented about their looks. The juvenile female victims ranged from 12 to 16 years in age. The incidents investigated by the Janesville Police Department are as follows:

10/30/17@7:50am (JV1761528)- A 12 year old female reported a male, later identified as Daryl Holloway, approached her as she was walking to school in the area of N. Pearl St/Ravine St. Holloway asked the juvenile female to get into his van and then followed her in his vehicle until she met with a friend. Daryl Holloway admitted he asked the female if she wanted a ride and claimed he believed she was 18 years old.

11/10/17@6:45am (JV1763727)- A 14 year old female reported she was waiting at the bus stop in front of 208 N. Main St. A male, believed to be Daryl Holloway, driving an older white vehicle pulled up. Holloway asked the juvenile what her name was and if she needed a ride. The juvenile stated she was waiting for the bus to go to school.

11/14/17@7:20am (JV1765082)- A 12 year old female reported a male, believed to be Daryl Holloway, approached her as she was walking to school in the area of E. Memorial Drive and N. Randall Ave. Holloway referred to the juvenile as “baby” and “baby girl.” The juvenile ignored Holloway as he tried to talk to her. Holloway referred to her using derogatory words prior to leaving the area.

11/16/17@7:50am (JV1764974)- A 16 year old female reported an unknown male, later identified as Daryl Holloway, approached her while she was with other children at the Janesville Bus Terminal. Holloway continued to talk to her and at one point asked her about what school she went to, what grade, and if she wanted a ride.

The juvenile females in each of the above mentioned incidents all reported feeling scared and in some cases feared for their personal safety.

On November 17th Holloway was arrested by Janesville detectives for disorderly conduct stemming from the incident on November 16th as well as the continuing pattern of behavior. Holloway told investigators he believed the juveniles were all adults and he was simply seeking companionship.

Holloway is a lifetime sex offender registrant due to a sexual assault conviction in 1985 in which the victim was an adult. His sex offender status does not restrict him from having contact with juveniles.

Residence and Vehicle Information:

Daryl Holloway has been residing at 2818 Rutledge in the City of Janesville and is known to drive a 2006 Saturn Relay van that is maroon in color with a silver back gate, WI license plate 241ZXS. He also drives a white 2005 Chevy Cavalier 2dr, WI license plate 963KEL, belonging to his girlfriend.

Community Partners:

Information concerning these incidents has been forwarded to the Janesville Transit System, the Janesville School District, the Wisconsin Department of Corrections (reference Holloway’s sex offender status), as well as the Rock County District Attorney’s Office for review of possible violation of the law pertaining to Holloway’s sex offender registration requirements.

Reporting and Safety Tips:

The Janesville Police Department encourages the public to contact the police should they observe any suspicious behavior by anyone in the community. Additional safety tips for students are as follows:

• Walk with a friend when possible.

• Stick to the route you picked with your parents. Don’t let friends talk you into shortcuts that are potentially dangerous.

• Never take rides, speak to, or accept gifts from strangers.

• Kids should be focused and very aware of their surroundings for their own safety. Listening to music, talking on the phone, playing games, and watching videos while walking and crossing streets is dangerous.

• Report any suspicious activity to a trusted adult, your teacher, the police resource officer, or a school administrator as soon as possible. Trust your instincts. If it doesn’t feel right, something is probably wrong.
