Detectives arrest pair for a string of residential/auto burglaries.

Detectives arrested a pair of Rio Nido men for a string of residential and auto burglaries. The investigation began on November 1, 2017 when a patrol deputy took a report from a victim in the 600 block of Piezzi Rd in Santa Rosa. While the victims were away from her home, a suspect broke in and stole a number of items valued at over $2,000. The victim had a surveillance system in her home that captured the suspect as he moved around her home. It appeared he was holding a handgun while he was searching the house.

On November 9, 2017 a victim’s black Jeep was broken into at the Willowside Flood Control Channel, a popular place for people to hike. Inside the vehicle, a suspect took the victim’s purse and used her credit cards at the Chevron and 7-Eleven at Guernveville Rd and Marlow Rd in Santa Rosa. Deputies were able to pull video surveillance and found two suspects using the victim’s credit card and they were in a distinctive red Subaru. One of the suspects matched the video surveillance taken from the Piezzi Rd burglary on November 1st.

Detectives, using the video, were able to identify the pair of suspects as Robert Hansen, a 51-year-old Rio Nido man and his roommate Adam Hager, 35. During the course of the investigation, burglary reports started to pick up in both the county’s jurisdiction and in the City of Santa  Rosa. Property Crimes detectives from the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office and Santa Rosa Police Department worked in conjunction and began conducting surveillance on the pair of men.

Yesterday at about 5:00 PM, detectives from SRPD were watching the men when they saw them in the area of Spring Lake Park acting suspiciously. Both suspects had earpieces and appeared to be secretly communicating with each other. Hansen appeared to be acting as a lookout on a nearby trail as Hager smashed a window of a car and removed property.

Detectives followed the pair to a Valero gas station on Mission and Hwy 12 where Hager tried to use the victim’s credit card. Detectives from both agencies closed in and arrested both without incident.

Detectives then went to their home in the 14000 block of Canyon 1 Rd in Rio Nido with a search warrant. In their home detectives found stolen items from a number of burglaries. They also found replica firearms and costume clothing that were similar to law enforcement uniforms. Detectives ultimately booked the pair on three burglary charges, possession of stolen property, conspiracy, identity theft and enhancements. More charges are likely to result as the detectives connect the stolen property with approximately 20 different burglary reports dating back to at least May, 2017.

Both were booked into the Sonoma County Jail. Hansen is being held on $425,000 bail as he had pending theft and drug warrants. Hager is being held on $190,000 bail.
