Protect Yourself this Holiday Season from Package Thieves

‘Tis the season for on-line shopping and home delivery, which provide ample opportunities for “Grinch’s” to steal your packages.  These thefts usually occur during the daytime when people are at work.  Sometimes thieves follow delivery trucks on their daily routes and target homes once a package is delivered.  Follow the tips below to help prevent becoming a victim of package theft.

-Have your package delivered to someone who can receive it in person, like a trusted neighbor or relative who is usually at home.
-If allowed, have packages delivered to your work place.  Be sure to check with your employer first.
-If shopping with a large retailer, request to pick up your order at a local store or branch.
-Request the shipper hold the package at their pick-up facility until you can pick it up in person.
-Arrange a specific date and time for delivery when you will be at home to receive it.
-Track your package.  Most large carriers offer the tracking option via their websites:
FedEx: http://www.fedex.com/tracking
UPS: https://www.ups.com/tracking/tracking.html\
DHL: http://www.dhl.com/en/express/tracking.html
USPS: https://tools.usps.com/go/TrackConfirmAction_input

If you see packages being stolen from your neighborhood, call 911 immediately!  Our Dispatchers will ask you for a description of the suspect(s) and any vehicles associated.

As always “if you see something, say something” and stay vigilant!  Happy Holidays!
