On November 17, 2017, Thousand Oaks patrol deputies responded to CVS store in Newbury Park for an attempted robbery that had just occurred. Deputies determined that a male subject wearing a clown mask entered the store, brandished a handgun to the cashier, and demanded money. The suspect was scared off and fled the scene before receiving any money from the cashier. Patrol deputies, Special Enforcement Unit detectives, and detectives from the Thousand Oaks Police Investigation Bureau arrived at CVS pharmacy and started the investigation. Shortly after their arrival, Cameron Diesso and a male juvenile were detained in the nearby area. Through investigation, detectives determined Cameron Diesso and the male juvenile were responsible for the attempted robbery. A handgun and evidence related to the robbery was recovered from the suspects. Detectives from the Sheriff’s Gang Unit responded to Thousand Oaks and assisted with the investigation. Detectives were able to determine male juvenile suspect was also responsible for an armed robbery that occurred on November 1, 2017 at the Valero Gas Station in the unincorporated community of El Rio. During that robbery, a male subject wearing a devil mask entered the gas station, brandished a handgun, and demanded money from the cashier. The suspect fled with cash before the arrival of responding deputies. Sheriff’s Gang Unit detectives later canvassed the area and located the suspect’s clothing and mask used during the commission of the robbery. The juvenile suspect was arrested and booked into Ventura County Juvenile Hall for robbery, Penal Code section 211, and attempted robbery, Penal Code section 664/211. Cameron Diesso was arrested and booked into the Ventura County Main Jail for Penal Code section 32, accessory to a crime. |
