Sheriff’s Air Rescue 06 and patrol helicopter, 40-King-4, were requested to assist a hiker that had became ill

INCIDENT: Hoist Rescue
LOCATION: Vivian Creek Trail, Mt. San Gorgonio
VICTIM: Connie Ferraro, 52 years old, Palmdale
SUMMARY:
On November 19th, 2017, Connie Ferraro was hiking up the Vivian Creek Trail in an attempt to summit Mt. San Gorgonio. At some point during the hike, Ferraro became sick while hiking at high altitude. She attempted to hike back down the mountain and became too sick to hike any further. Family members with Ferraro called 911 and requested assistance.
At approximately 2:30 p.m., Sheriff’s Air Rescue 06 and the patrol helicopter, 40-King-4, were requested to assist in locating Ferraro. After a short time, the patrol crew located Ferraro and determined she would need to be hoist rescued. Ferraro was on a narrow trail in steep terrain at the 9,200’ level.
Air Rescue 06 arrived and performed a hoist rescue of Ferraro. She flown to a local area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
