MUST HAVE A VALID ALABAMA DRIVERS LICENSE AND CLEAR CRIMINAL BACKGROUND. Communication Officers perform a full range of radio and telephone operational duties in this 24-hour facility. Duties include use of a computer-aided dispatch system, receive emergency & non-emergency calls from the public requesting law enforcement services. Communication Officers must be able to determine the nature and location of the emergency/non-emergency, determine priorities, and dispatch units as necessary and in accordance with established policy and procedures. Communication Officers receive and process calls, maintain contact with all units on assignment, maintain status and location of units throughout shifts. Communication Officers enter, update and retrieve information from a variety of computer systems. Communication Officers monitor several public safety radio frequencies, operate a variety of communications equipment, including but not limited to; radio consoles, telephones, computer systems, security systems, control boards, etc. Duties include working in the control tower monitoring inmate activity and facility security. Communication Officers are required to maintain accurate detailed documentation for all activity throughout the shift.
