A man suspected of breaking into and burglarizing a car was arrested after the owner spotted him and called 911.

Man Suspected of Breaking into Vehicle, Stealing Personal Property

A man suspected of breaking into a Toyota Camry and stealing items from inside was arrested after the vehicle owner spotted him and followed the suspect while calling 911.

Sean Michael Gueffroy, 26, of 999 W. Amador Ave., is charged with one count of burglary of a vehicle. The charge is a fourth-degree felony count.

Las Cruces police investigators learned that a custodian happened to step outside of Conlee Elementary School when he noticed the dome light to his Toyota Camry turn off, consistent with the door just closing. The vehicle owner noticed that the passenger-side window was shattered and several items, including a backpack, were missing.

The owner of the vehicle saw a man walking away from the area and carrying several bags. The owner got into his vehicle and followed the man while calling 911 to summon police to the area.

Officers located the suspect, identified as Gueffroy, and detained him. Gueffory was in possession of the victim’s personal property and several UPS packages believed to have been taken from nearby residences. Additional charges against Gueffroy are pending.

Gueffroy was booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he’s initially being held without bond.
