Felon Suspected of Being in Possession of Firearm

A felon suspected of trespassing at a local hotel has been charged with being in possession of a firearm.

Marcos Munoz, 34, who resides at 999 W. Amador Ave., is charged with a fourth-degree felony count of possession of a firearm by a felon and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.

Shortly before 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14, Las Cruces Police were dispatched to the report of a man trespassing at the Sleep Inn hotel, at 2121 S. Triviz Dr. Officers made contact with Munoz inside the lobby of the hotel and learned that he had an active warrant for his arrest.

During a pat-down, Munoz was found to have two .380 caliber bullets and a glass smoking pipe. Officers further found a black .380 caliber handgun in a laundry basket that Munoz was carrying.

Investigators determined that Munoz had previously been convicted of a felony and, therefore, was prohibited from possessing a firearm.

Munoz was arrested and booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center where he’s initially being held without bond.
