California City - Student on School bus helps bus driver

California City - Emergency Personnel are calling a 9 year-old Cal City girl a hero for summoning assistance for her bus driver. A 911 call was received yesterday afternoon from a 9 yesr-old student on board a Mojave Unified School bus near Cal City. The student told the 911 dispatcher that the driver suddenly became ill and slumped over the wheel on the bus.

The bus was making its final stop on its route and had only a few students left on the bus when the medical emergency occurred.

The 4th grade student ran to her home from the bus stop and grabbed a cell phone to call 911 for the driver. She then ran back to the bus and stayed with the driver.

The girl stayed on 911 until emergency crews were able to locate the bus and the student. The driver was taken to a local hospital for a non life-threatening illness.

A special recognition for the young girl is being organized.
