Lifesaving Medal - Officer Jorge Aleman
On 11-8-17 the Pomona Police Department held an awards ceremony to recognize individual Department members and citizens who have distinguished themselves through heroism, or extraordinary dedicated service to the Department or the City of Pomona.
The following story is related to Officer Jorge Aleman being awarded the Lifesaving Medal.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
On March 1st, 2016, Pomona Police Dispatch received a call of a residential house fire on San Antonio Ave. Officer Jorge Aleman was working as a motor officer that day and was first to arrive on scene. Aleman immediately saw flames and smoke coming from the residence. On-lookers told Aleman that a woman and a baby were still inside the home. Aleman put his own safety at risk and ran into the burning house. Once inside he located a woman trying unsuccessfully to put out the fire with a garden hose. Aleman, knowing the woman was in danger of being overwhelmed by smoke and flames, pulled the woman out of the house and to safety. No one else was inside the home.
Once outside both Aleman and the victim were treated for smoke inhalation and taken to the hospital for further treatment.
Without the quick and selfless actions of Officer Aleman, there is no doubt that the female resident would have suffered serious injury or possible death as a result of the house fire. Officer Aleman was awarded the Lifesaving Medal for his actions.
