The Union City Police Department has an important message for you about a scheduled event that will create loud noise.
Alameda County Supervisor Richard Valle is hosting an event on Veterans Day, this Saturday, November 11, to dedicate a new Veteran’s Memorial that honors the six branches of the military
The event will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Park in Union City.
A ceremonial howitzer (cannon) will be fired off twice during the event. The cannon will approximately be fired between 10:25 a.m. and 10:35 a.m. and again between 11:10 a.m. and 11:20 a.m.
The flyover and landing by a Vietnam War era helicopter will approximately take place between 11:20 a.m. and 11:30 a.m.
Residents who live near the park are expected to hear extremely loud noise that is generated from the firing of the cannon and fly over / landing of the helicopter. There is no need to call UCPD about the noise.
It is encouraged that residents within one square mile of the event keep young children and pets indoors for their safety and comfort. Guests who attend the event will be asked to wear complimentary ear plugs that will be handed out.
