Police have identified the pedestrian killed in Thursday's hit-and-run crash and have located the suspected driver.
Fatal Hit-and-Run Victim Identified, Suspected Driver Located
The pedestrian killed in Thursday evening’s hit-and-run crash on south Valley Drive has been identified as 59-year-old Orland Jolliff of Las Cruces.
Traffic investigators have notified Jolliff’s next of kin of his passing.
The suspected driver of the vehicle that fled the area has also been located and has been cooperative with investigators. No charges have been filed at this time as LCPD Traffic officers are continuing their investigation into the crash.
Shortly before 9 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 2, Las Cruces police were dispatched to 2000 south Valley Drive, near the intersection with Farney Lane, where they discovered Jolliff unresponsive on the roadway. Jolliff was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.
Preliminary information from the crash indicates that Jolliff was walking south near the shoulder of Valley Drive when he was struck from behind. The driver of the vehicle did not stop. Another motorist passing by came across the scene and called 911.
LCPD is continuing its investigation and further information will be provided at the appropriate time.
