Body Discovered near Valley Drive Identified as 28-year-old Las Cruces Man

The remains found Oct. 19 near Branigan Park have positively been identified as that of 28-year-old Daniel Thomas Kearney of Las Cruces.

Shortly before 10 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, a person working in the area discovered a body near the 300 block of north Valley Drive, in an undeveloped lot between Fire Station 3 and Branigan Park. The body was sent to the New Mexico medical investigator’s office for autopsy and was positively identified as Kearney.

A relative reported Kearney missing on Oct. 11, two days after he was last seen or heard from. Kearney suffered from several health issues and, though he had an apartment, associated with individuals within the local homeless community.

Kearney’s body had no obvious signs of trauma but investigators still do not know the cause of his death.

Anyone with information on Kearney’s whereabouts on or about Oct. 9-10, or who he may have associated with on those days, is asked to call police at (575) 526-0795.
