Modesto, CA – A multi-agency investigation is underway for an officer-involved shooting that took place this morning in the 1700 block of Oakdale Road.

At about 8:50 a.m., officers received information from bail bond agents that they were in the area watching 38-year-old Jason Boyd Perkins, who was wanted for an assault on a Turlock police officer with a firearm, evading, and auto theft, that occurred earlier this year. Less than an hour later, the agents updated dispatch with Perkins’ location and requested law enforcement respond due to the suspect being dangerous and possibly armed.

Officers patrolling the area responded and found Perkins seated in a vehicle parked in front of Bank of America. During the initial contact, an officer-involved shooting occurred. The circumstances leading up to the shooting are under investigation.

Emergency medical personnel transported Perkins to a local hospital where he is being treated for his injuries. The officer involved in this incident was placed on paid administrative leave, which is a standard procedure with all officer-involved shootings.

Investigators are in the preliminary stages of processing the crime scene, collecting evidence and interviewing witnesses.

Three separate and independent investigations have been launched. The Modesto Police Department is conducting both a criminal and administrative investigation and the Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent review of the incident.

As we continue our investigation, we welcome any information that would help us piece together what took place. Anyone with information is encouraged to call Detective Robert Gumm 209-342-9162.
