INCIDENT: Fatal Traffic Collision

LOCATION: Twentynine Palms Highway/ La Honda Way, Yucca Valley

VICTIM: Names withheld pending notification of next of kin

SUMMARY:
On Friday, November 3, 2017, at approximately 2:07 p.m., deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff’s Station, responded to a major injury accident located at Twentynine Palms Highway and La Honda Way, in the town of Yucca Valley. During the investigation, deputies determined a silver Toyota Corolla traveled eastbound, along Twentynine Palms Highway when the driver sideswiped a Chevrolet pickup truck, who was also eastbound along Twentynine Palms Highway. The collision caused the Corolla to travel into the left turn only lane of Twentynine Palms Highway. A Lincoln MKZ, traveling westbound along Twentynine Palms Highway entered the left turn only lane and was struck head on by the Corolla. The driver and passenger of the Corolla succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The occupants of the Lincoln MKZ were transported to a local area hospital and the driver of the pickup truck was not injured. The Morongo Basin Major Investigation Team responded to the scene. The cause of the collision is still under investigation. The names of the driver and passenger of the Corolla are withheld pending notification of next of kin.
