On November 4, 2017, at 4:09 a.m. Deputy U.B. Smith stopped a Silver 2002 Buick passenger car for following other vehicles too closely on Locust Street near Elm Street in Fort Branch, Indiana. Upon approaching the vehicle Deputy Smith identified the driver as 26 year old Candace Wilmes of Winslow, Indiana. While speaking with Ms. Wilmes Deputy Smith detected the odor of alcohol coming from within the vehicle and began a roadside investigation. At the conclusion of his investigation Ms. Wilmes was taken into custody and transported to the Gibson County Jail where she was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated (DUI). Ms. Wilmes remains in custody on a $1300 bond.
