MBPD Community Police Academy – Now Accepting Applications

The Manhattan Beach Police Department is currently accepting applications for the 2018 Community Police Academy.  The Academy is a ten-week program that is designed to educate residents and local citizens on various aspects of law enforcement.  The first session will take place on Thursday, January 11, 2018, from 6:00 - 9:00 P.M. at the Manhattan Beach Police Department.  Classes will continue every Thursday and will culminate with a graduation ceremony on March 15, 2018.

Each session will highlight select sections (i.e. Patrol, SWAT, K-9, Traffic & Detectives) within the Department and feature instruction by police officers, support personnel, as well as management staff.  This Academy is not intended to prepare citizens for street duty as police officers.  Instead, participants will become closely familiar with the operations of the Manhattan Beach Police Department. At the same time, through this interaction with our residents, our officers get the opportunity to work toward building stronger community relationships.

To participate, an Academy application must be submitted for review to determine suitability for the program. Applicants must then meet the following criteria:
-Must be at least 18 years old
-Must reside or work within the City of Manhattan Beach
-Must not have felony convictions
-Must not be wanted for any crime
-Must submit to a limited background check (to include: warrants & criminal history)

For more program information, please call Officer Kristie Colombo (310) 802-5184 or email: [email protected].  Academy applications and brochures are available on the city website: http://www.citymb.info/city-officials/police-department/programs-and-services/crime-prevention
