San Leandro Police Detectives identify two suspects responsible for a pair of summertime armed robberies

On Tuesday, Oct 31st, 2017, San Leandro Police Detective Tim Perry delivered a three-month Robbery investigation to the Alameda County District Attorney's Office, identifying two suspects.

The San Leandro Robberies occurred on July 24th and September 12th, where two San Leandro residents were robbed at gunpoint for their Rolex watches. The first incident, which occurred on Vistagrand Drive in Bay-o-Vista, the suspect shot at the victim. The second incident occurred on Heather Glenn Drive in the southern part of San Leandro.

These cases were part of a summertime Bay Area trend of Rolex watch robberies that were occurring in several East Bay communities. Detectives from these agencies worked collectively in an attempt to solve these crimes.

Last month, two suspects, 22 yr-old Larry Ward of Oakland (first photo) and 23 yr-old Henry Johnson of Antioch were in arrested in Oakland in connection with these crimes. SLPD Detectives were able to identify both suspects responsible for the San Leandro incidents.

Yesterday, the District Attorney charged both men with multiple felony counts of robbery, assault with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm and child endangerment crimes as children were present in both incidents.

"This is a case of exemplary police work by our detectives," said San Leandro Police Lieutenant Isaac Benabou. "These violent crimes committed in our community, in the presence of children, are unacceptable to our quality of life. Our investigative staff persistently worked on these cases until the suspects were identified and brought to justice."

Both Ward and Johnson remain in custody at Alameda County's Santa Rita Jail in Dublin awaiting their court proceedings.
