Caitlin Forbes was arrested for Saturday’s fatal hit-and-run collision

At 8:40PM on Saturday, October 28, 2017, Anchorage Police responded to the area of E 5th Avenue and Muldoon Road in regards to a vehicle versus pedestrian hit-and-run crash.  49-year-old Brian Ballot was found deceased at the scene.  The driver involved had left the area.

Through evidence collection at the crash site, investigators were able to determine the suspect vehicle may be a 2003 – 2005 Dodge Neon with after-market headlights.  On October 30th at 3:51 PM this new information was disseminated through a Nixle release by the APD.  17 minutes later APD received an anonymous tip that a vehicle matching the updated description was parked on the 7700-block of Boundary Avenue.  An APD Fatality Investigator arrived and located a 2003 yellow Dodge Neon that was concluded to have been involved in the fatality.  The vehicle’s owner, 22-year-old Caitlin Forbes, was not at the residence.  While the investigator was waiting on the tow truck to impound the Dodge for evidence, he received information that Forbes was at her parents’ home in South Anchorage.  The investigator responded to that address and placed Forbes under arrest.

As of now Forbes has been charged with Leaving the Scene of an Accident Without Assisting the Injured.  As more search warrants are served, and additional evidence is collected, it is highly likely that Forbes will face additional charges.

The Anchorage Police Department is thankful for the citizen who stepped forward and helped in the collection of evidence vital to solving this crime.
