NPD Remains Committed to Combating Opioid Crisis By Carrying Naloxone; Encourages Public’s Participation in Drug Take Back Day

In June 2017, Novato Police Department officers began carrying Naloxone (Narcan) and since then our officers have already saved one life. But there are a number of ways community members can help in the fight as well.

Narcan, which is the FDA-approved form of Naxolone, can be purchased over the counter in the form of a nasal spray. This is a great tool for members of the public to have on hand that can quickly reverse opioid overdoses. Additionally, we encourage the community to participate in the DEA’s National Drug Take Back Day, happening tomorrow from 10AM to 2PM. In addition to helping loved ones from falling victim to the opioid epidemic, disposing of leftover pills also lessens the likelihood that other persons, such as residential burglars, come in contact with these addictive medicines.

Participating in the DEA National Drug Take Back Day is quick and seamless. Bring your pills for disposal to the Novato Police Department located at 909 Machin Avenue. Note: The DEA cannot accept liquids, needles or sharps – only pills or patches. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.
