This afternoon around 12:30 pm, San Leandro police officers responded to the area of Dutton Ave. and E.14th street regarding a stolen vehicle that just occurred. Two adult subjects, a male and female, had been driving a stolen vehicle when they became involved in a traffic collision. Immediately following the collision, the two suspects fled the scene and stole another motorist’s commercial truck vehicle before driving away.

Approximately 2 hours later, SLPD’s Crime Suppression Detectives located the stolen vehicle occupied by the two suspects in the area of 105th Ave. and International Blvd. in Oakland. Both uniformed officers and detectives converged on the suspects in an attempt to take them into custody.

At this time the suspect driver aggressively accelerated the stolen truck and fled from the officers leading them on a chase through city streets in Oakland. In the course of the police chase, the suspect intentionally rammed 3 occupied police vehicles and also struck an A/C Transit bus. 

The stolen truck became partially disabled from these collisions, however, the driver continued to flee from officers at a low speed for over eight minutes. The Oakland Police Department’s helicopter was utilized to assist in following the suspect until the stolen vehicle became permanently disabled at the intersection of 96th Ave. and Bancroft Ave. in Oakland. 

Both suspects immediately surrendered and were taken into custody without any further incident. Two officers involved in the chase were injured from the collisions and sought medical treatment. Both officers have been treated and released. 

The suspects have been booked for multiple felony charges and the case will be sent to the Alameda County District Attorney for charging.
