MHPD arrests made in Street Racing and Exhibition of Speed cases

Morgan Hill Police Department appreciates the public’s engagement and advisement of ongoing traffic related issues plaguing their neighborhoods. In the past several days the Morgan Hill Police Department fielded multiple traffic complaints regarding drag racing on our City streets. The Morgan Hill Police Department has noticed an ongoing trend of reckless driving, street racing and exhibition of speed cases in our jurisdiction . We wanted to update the community of two notable events regarding this issue.

On 10/21/17, at approximately 2100 hours, Officers located approximately 50 vehicles parked at 15790 Monterey Rd. As these vehicles were preparing to race, Officers converged on them and witnessed multiple vehicles exhibiting their speed in a reckless manner. Luis LOPEZ 07/15/96 out of Hayward, Jorge PACHECO 02/10/97 out of San Jose and a juvenile were arrested for exhibition of speed/reckless driving and their vehicles were impounded.

On 10/23/17, at approximately 0242 hours, Officers witnessed Esteban CUEVAS 11/22/98 speeding and drifting circles in the intersection of Mission View at Mission Avenida. CUEVAS was arrested, and his vehicle was subsequently impounded.

Morgan Hill Police Department encourages the public to continue to call and report these issues as they are happening. Participation and attendance in these street racing events are not only dangerous and pose a hazard to all, but are also illegal. People associated to these side shows can be subject to a citation or arrest and vehicle impoundment.
