**REMINDER: National Drug Drop Off Day (2 places), Community Blood Drive, and Trunk or Treat Sat. 10/28/2017. #359

The West Windsor Township PD and Religious Leaders Partner for a Community Blood Drive and National Drug Drop Off Day

[West Windsor, NJ] – On Saturday, October 28, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. the West Windsor Township PD and the Drug Enforcement Administration will give the public its 14th opportunity in 7 years to prevent pill abuse and theft by ridding their homes of potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs.  Bring your pills for disposal to the West Windsor Township Municipal Center (look for the WWPD Blue Tent) located at 271 Clarksville Road.
One of our community partners, Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler is also taking part in the event by having Sheriff Officers at 640 South Broad Street, Trenton (Mercer County Administration Building) from 10 am - 2 pm if any of our community members is in the Greater Trenton area.

The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches. The service is free and anonymous, no questions asked.

This initiative addresses a vital public safety and public health issue.  Medicines that languish in home cabinets are highly susceptible to diversion, misuse, and abuse. Rates of prescription drug abuse in the U.S. are alarmingly high, as are the number of accidental poisonings and overdoses due to these drugs.  Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. In addition, Americans are now advised that their usual methods for disposing of unused medicines—flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash—both pose potential safety and health hazards.

For more information about the disposal of prescription drugs or about the October 28 Take Back Day event, go to the DEA Diversion website.  In addition, if you have any questions about the program feel free to contact Lt. Robert Fow #358 at (609) 799-1222 or [email protected]

COMMUNITY BLOOD DRIVE:  The Religious Leaders of West Windsor are partnering with the Community Blood Council of New Jersey, Inc., and the West Windsor Township PD for a Blood Drive from 10 am- 3 pm at the WW Municipal Center.  Both of the events are being held to bring our community together.  If you have any questions about the Community Blood Drive you can visit www.GiveBloodNJ.org or contact Lori at (609) 883-9750.

Afterward, the Princeton Meadow Church will be hosting Trunk or Treat from 3 pm- 5 pm and open to all children in the community.  For more information about Trunk or Treat contact Pastor Ken Smith at [email protected].  This day has been long planned and Chief Garofalo is very pleased to see so many of our community partners working together as one for a common goal of helping one another.
