Alert

Flood Advisory until 02:00AM Tuesday

The National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg has issued a

* Flood Advisory for... Eastern Lincoln County in the Piedmont of North Carolina... Mecklenburg County in the Piedmont of North Carolina... Gaston County in the Piedmont of North Carolina... York County in Upstate South Carolina...

* Until 1100 PM EDT Monday

* At 453 PM EDT, Doppler radar and automated rain gauges indicated heavy rain due to thunderstorms. Very intense rainfall rates of 2- 3 inches per hour are leaving York and Gastonia and entering Rock Hill and metro Charlotte. This may cause minor flooding in the advisory area.

* This advisory is primarily to give drivers advanced notice of urban-related flooding, including poor-drainage areas, low-lying areas, flood-prone parking lots, underpasses, and intersections. The rainfall rates with these storms are very intense and drainage systems in major towns and cities may be overwhelmed in a very short period of time.

* Significant rises are expected on area streams, but streams should stay within their banks. Very small creeks and ditches may, however, be overwhelmed by the rainfall.

* Some locations that may experience flooding include... Gastonia, Rock Hill, Uptown Charlotte, Huntersville, York, Central Charlotte, South Charlotte, Southwest Charlotte, East Charlotte and Northwest Charlotte.

* AFFECTED AREAS: GASTON ... LINCOLN

Instructions:

Heavy rainfall will cause ponding of water in urban areas, highways, streets and underpasses, as well as other poor drainage areas and low lying spots. Do not attempt to travel across flooded roads.
