Sheriff’s Office Detectives Investigate Officer Involved Shooting in South Modesto

Modesto CA – A multi-agency investigation is currently underway for an officer-involved shooting that occurred at 1:10 a.m. at Imperial Avenue and Ustick Road in Modesto, CA. Two Ceres Police Department officers were involved in the shooting, and an adult male was transported to the emergency where he was later pronounced deceased. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office is conducting the criminal investigation due to jurisdiction.

Preliminary investigation shows that on 10-22-17 at about 1:08 a.m., Ceres PD was in pursuit of a vehicle in the unincorporated area of Stanislaus County. The pursuit ended at Imperial Avenue and Ustick Road. At about 1:10 a.m., officers advised their radio communications that they had been involved in a shooting. The driver of the vehicle was struck by officer gunfire. Emergency services personnel responded to the scene, and the adult male was transported to the emergency room where he later died. The officers involved in the shooting were not injured.

Detectives are in the preliminary stages of their investigation processing the crime scene and interviewing witnesses. The name of the officers and suspect are not being released at this time. The officers involved in this incident have been placed on administrative leave per department policy. The last officer-involved shooting for Ceres PD was in January 2016.

Three separate and independent investigations have been launched into this officer-involved shooting. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office is conducting a criminal investigation. Ceres Police Department will conduct an administrative investigation. The Stanislaus County District Attorney’s Office is conducting an independent review of the officer-involved shooting.
