VENTURA COUNTY INTERAGENCY PHARMACEUTICAL CRIMES UNIT News Story Release Nature of Incident: Narcotics Arrest Report Number: 17-114511 Location: City of Thousand Oaks Date & Time: October 4th, 2017 Unit(s) Responsible: Ventura County Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit (PCU) (S)uspects, (V)ictims, (P)arty, (D)ecedent City of Residence Age (S) Ryan Tallmadge Santa Monica 31 Narrative: On October 4th 2017, detectives from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit assisted by the Ventura County Sheriff’s East County Street Narcotics Unit concluded a two month narcotic investigation into Ryan Tallmadge, who was involved in the sales of MDMA (ecstasy) and Alprazolam (Xanax) to residents of Ventura and Los Angeles Counties. Detectives detained Tallmadge in Thousand Oaks, and located about 1,700 Alprazolam pills and about ½ ounce of MDMA inside his vehicle. Once Tallmadge was in custody, a signed search warrant was executed at his residence. During this investigation, detectives were able to seize approximately 5 ounces of MDMA, 10,264 Alprazolam pills and a large sum of U.S. currency deemed to be proceeds of narcotic sales. Tallmadge was booked into custody at the Ventura County Sheriff’s East County Jail facility for 11378 H&S – possession for sale of a controlled substance (MDMA) and 11375(b)(1) H&S – possession for sale of a designated controlled substance (Alprazolam). On October 6th, 2017, this case was presented to the District Attorney’s office for review. The District Attorney’s office elected to file one felony count of 11378 H&S and one count of 11375(b)(1) H&S. On October 7th, 2017 Tallmadge was released from custody in lieu of $50,000 bail. The Ventura County Interagency Pharmaceutical Crimes Unit is a task force made up of members from the Ventura County Sheriff’s Office, Thousand Oaks Police Department, the California Highway Patrol, the Ventura Police Department, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Health Quality Investigation Unit of the California Division of Investigation, and the California Department of Health Care Services. The primary mission of the task force is combatting the transfer of legal prescription medication to the illegal market. In addition, the task force works to identify and stop new trends of abuse among the younger population and investigates overdoses due to both prescription medication and illicit drug use.
