VICTIM OF CRASH ON WASHINGTON AVENUE EXT. HAS DIED

The victim of a motor vehicle crash involving a bicyclist that occurred this morning on Washington Avenue Extension as died.

On Thursday, October 19, 2017 at approximately 5:30 a.m., officers responded to the area of Washington Avenue Extension and the entrance to Crossgates Commons for a report of a bicyclist struck by a vehicle. Upon arrival, officers located a male bicyclist in the westbound lane who had been struck by a car.

The bicyclist, 31, was treated at the scene by medical personnel and transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital where he later died as a result of his injuries. The victim’s name will not be released until proper notifications have been made.

Preliminarily, it appears that the bicyclist was crossing Washington Avenue northbound at the entrance of Crossgates Commons and was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound. The driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene and has been cooperative with investigating officers.

Washington Avenue Extension westbound from Fuller Road to Rapp Road will be closed until further notice while officers further investigate the crash.
