Health Alert - Rabid Animal Found in Kendall Park Hurricane Relief Effort this Saturday

PUBLIC HEALTH ADVISORY NOTICE OF RABID SKUNK
LOCATION:  Langley Road, Kendall Park
DATE FOUND: Saturday October 14th

On Tuesday, October 17th, the South Brunswick Health Department was notified by the New Jersey State Health Department that a skunk submitted for testing did test positive for rabies.

This skunk was found in the vicinity of Langley Road in Kendall Park on Saturday October 14th.

The South Brunswick Health Department continues to monitor rabies cases within the municipality. Residents should report wild animals showing signs of unusual behavior to the Police Department. Additionally, it is recommended that residents should avoid contact with wild animals and immediately report any bites from wild or domestic animals to your local health department and consult a physician as soon as possible. Finally, be sure that all family pets are up to date on their rabies vaccinations and licenses.

The Health Department reminds all residents to:

  • Vaccinate all pets against rabies and keep vaccinations current
  • Never feed or touch wild animals and avoid contact with stray pets
  • Contact the Health Dept. if your pet comes in contact with a wild animal
  • Report unusual behavior of stray or wild animals to South Brunswick Animal Control

HURRICANE RELIEF EFFORT

Several South Brunswick community groups and Hermann Transportation Services of Monmouth Junction are coordinating a relief drive to help the people devastated by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico. The drive being coordinated by South Brunswick High School Varsity Coach C.J. Hendricks is a one day effort that will collect needed supplies and work with NJ National Guard for delivery and disbursement. Coach Hendricks said there is an outpouring of support from the various athletic, student and community groups.

Here is s a list of the supplies that we are looking to collect:
 
Bottle water, non-perishable foods, ready-to-eat meals, cleanup kits, home repair kits, tarps, trash bags, insect repellant, hand sanitizer, work gloves, extension cords, baby wipes, diapers, baby formula, canned milk, first-aid kits, blankets, pillows, towels
