News Story - Camarillo Target Store Theft Suspect Arrested

Narrative: On 10/12/17, Camarillo detectives arrested Jose Casarez for a series of burglaries/thefts of high end vacuum cleaners and other electronic devices from local retail stores.

Between the months of March and July 2017, an unidentified suspect (Jose Casarez) committed an estimated nine thefts from Target retail stores within the county of Ventura. The victims estimated the value of the stolen merchandise at over $5,500.00. In many of the thefts, the suspect was seen on surveillance video stealing high end home appliances (i.e. Dyson and iRobot).

On 09/13/17, Camarillo detectives released a news story asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect from the Target thefts. The news story included still photos taken from the video coverage.

On 10/10/17, the Camarillo Investigations Unit received an anonymous tip naming Jose Casarez as the suspect in the thefts. Detectives began investigating Casarez and found evidence linking him to the crimes.

On 10/12/17, detectives from the Camarillo Investigations Bureau and the Camarillo Special Enforcement Detail conducted a probation search at Casarez’s residence, in Oxnard. Detectives found evidence linking Casarez to crimes in Camarillo, as well as Thousand Oaks. Casarez was arrested for multiple theft counts and booked into the Ventura County Main Jail.
