Sheriff's Office warns of another scam.

During the past few days, the Vigo County Sheriff’s Office has received several reports from citizens concerning a phone call they received from alleged deputies working the Warrants and Citation Division informing them that they have an arrest warrant for failure to appear. “This is definitely a scam” Chief Deputy John Moats said.  The caller is claiming to be with the VCSO and informs them that they can avoid arrest if they would put the fine amount on a Green Dot Debit Card for payment. The caller demands to stay on the phone until the card is loaded with the money and the payment is received. The caller will then advise to meet them at the courthouse to receive their receipt.

“Not only does our office not have a Warrant and Citation Division, under no circumstances will we call demanding money for a warrant” Chief Moats said.  Detectives with the VCSO continue to follow leads in this case.
