Hunting and related laws above Altadena.

Hunting season is opened last weekend for general hunting, while archery has since closed. In Los Angeles County we are in area D11 which permits hunting through November 12th, 2017.

The most popular locations to hunt deer are Azuza Canyon, Glendora Ridge, Lake Castaic, and Mt. Gleason to name a few, many people choose Altadena area. Hunting is only allowed 1/2 hour after sunrise and 1/2 hour before sunset.

There are county, state and federal laws that govern this activity. It is surprising how far Los Angeles County extends what we think of national forest land. In Los Angeles County it is illegal to shoot a firearm or archery hunt within 150 yards of any road, trail, campsite, house, or structure.

State of California Fish and Wildlife states within 150 yards of an occupied dwelling house, residence, or other building is a safety zone, and no hunting is permitted. The federal government also has the same safety zone requirement.

While hunting is allowed, there are many rules to keep the population healthy and the public safe. The regulating agency is the CA Department of Fish and Wildlife. If you see a violation please call the CA tips hotline at (888) 334-2258.

We also recommend if you live in the wild-land interface, please fix any fences and post "no trespassing" to discourage any hunters. The Altadena Sheriff's Station can enforce any trespassing issues.
