SMPD arrests man after unprovoked stabbing of two women

San Mateo Police quickly locate and arrest a man fleeing from his house after he stabbed two women who were caretakers at the residence. The women were transported to a local hospital later determined to be non-life-threatening injuries and the man was booked into county jail for various charges.

On Saturday, October 14, 2017, at about 5 p.m. San Mateo Police Officers responded to the area of 1700 block of Cottage Grove on a report of someone stabbed.  The caller gave our dispatchers a description of the suspect and advised SMPD that he fled from the residence. Moments later our officers arrived in the area and located the man who was identified as 33-year-old San Mateo resident Julio Escamilla.  Escamilla was found to be in possession of multiple knifes, one believed to be the weapon used in the crime.  While officers contacted Escamilla, other SMPD officers quickly responded to the residence to provide assistance to the victims.  At the residence, officers located two female victims suffering from multiple stab wounds.  Both women were transported to a local hospital for their injuries.

San Mateo Police officers learned that Escamilla’s attack was unprovoked.  The victims were caretakers for a senior assistance business at the residence and Escamilla was the boyfriend of the business owner. Escamilla was subsequently booked into county jail for two counts of attempted murder and two counts of assault with a deadly weapon.
